Job Description

Veterinary Assistant

Deer Park Veterinary Hospital | Cincinnati, OH | Full-Time

You’re good at the details. You think one step ahead. You make the whole team better. Sound like you?

Deer Park Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full-time Veterinary Assistant who brings more to the table than a willingness to follow instructions. We want someone who notices what needs to be done, communicates before a small problem becomes a big one, and understands that great patient care starts with a great team.

We're an established, privately owned veterinary hospital with an experienced medical team, modern technology, and a strong appreciation for the people who keep the hospital running. We believe our veterinary assistants play an important role in patient care, client experience, and helping our doctors and veterinary technicians do their best work.

We're looking for a teammate, not a passenger.

What you'll do

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments, patient care, treatments, and daily medical workflows.

  • Help patients feel as comfortable as possible while supporting safe, low-stress handling practices.

  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment so the team is ready for what's next.

  • Monitor patients, communicate changes or concerns promptly, and help maintain accurate medical records.

  • Support laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, and other clinical tasks appropriate to your training and experience.

  • Help clients navigate their visit with clear, professional, and compassionate communication.

  • Keep the hospital clean, organized, and ready for patients throughout the day.

  • Anticipate needs, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and jump in to support your teammates when priorities shift.

What makes someone successful here?

We're interested in how you work just as much as what you already know.

You take initiative. You don't need someone to narrate every step of your day. You look around, recognize what needs attention, and take appropriate action.

You communicate. You ask questions when you're unsure, speak up when something changes, and make sure important information doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

You follow through. If you say you'll do something, your teammates can count on it. You take responsibility for mistakes and focus on solutions.

You work as a team. You understand that patient care is a shared responsibility. You offer help, accept feedback, and treat every role in the hospital with respect.

You want to grow. You're willing to learn, improve your skills, and become more confident and capable over time. You don't have to know everything on day one, but you do need to be willing to learn.

You can handle a busy day. Veterinary medicine doesn't always follow the schedule. You can adjust priorities, stay professional, and keep moving without losing sight of patient safety.

What you bring

  • Previous veterinary or animal-care experience is a plus; we're interested in the right combination of experience, work ethic, and willingness to learn.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and established protocols.

  • Comfort working around animals in a busy medical environment.

  • A willingness to receive feedback, ask questions, and build new skills.

  • The ability to work on your feet, assist with animal handling, and perform the physical demands of the position, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.

  • Reliability, sound judgment, and a genuine sense of responsibility for your work.

Why Deer Park?

  • Privately owned practice: Work in an established hospital with a close-knit medical team and direct, hands-on leadership.

  • A team that values growth: Build your skills and learn from experienced veterinary professionals.

  • Modern tools and technology: We use ezyVet, digital radiography, in-house diagnostics, ultrasound, and AI-assisted medical documentation.

  • A meaningful role in patient care: Work alongside doctors and credentialed veterinary technicians who rely on capable assistants to help the entire team succeed.

  • Benefits: Eligible team members have access to medical, vision, and dental benefits, along with a 401(k) plan with employer matching, subject to plan terms.

  • A convenient location: We're just minutes from Kenwood Towne Centre, serving the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.

Ready to be the person everyone can count on?

If you're dependable, proactive, coachable, and ready to contribute to a team that takes patient care seriously, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and tell us a little about your experience, what you're looking for in your next position, and what makes you a great teammate.
